Still Photography & Assignments

Tom began his successful photographic career in 1965. His library of over 40,000 35mm images (recently acquired by the Save Our Seas Foundation) is managed out of our Santa Barbara office. Often along with magazine articles he wrote, Tom’s images have appeared worldwide in publications such as National Geographic, National Wildlife, Audubon, and various dive & travel magazines. His award-winning photography continues to be featured in books, calendars, and other publications worldwide.

STILL PHOTOGRAPHY & ASSIGNMENTS:

February 1999: Discovery shark documentary, Nassau Bahamas.
May 1998: Amoco Commercial print campaign BBDS Chicago, on location in Nassau, Bahamas.
November 1998: Discovery shark documentary, Soccorro, Mexico.
1998: Professional photographic seminars for Nikon, Atlanta, Georgia.
1997: Photographic assignment for Unlimited Magazine Hachett Publishing article on free divers and giant fish.
1993: Assignment, still photographer: LA Times Abalone Planting in southern California.
1993: California. Light Wings environmental organizations. Still photographer for the Blue Shark project.
1992: Designer and Founder of Technical Lighting Control Corp. Strobe arm system that set the standard in the photographic industry for stills, video and film cameras. Sold to Aqua Visions in Canada, marketed by Nikon.
1990: Multi media photographic marketing project for the government of Dominica, W.I. Department of Tourism.
1975-1985: California Highway Patrol. Responsible for the documentation of major chemical spills, multiple fatality collisions and accident investigation photography. CHP photo instructor for statewide public affairs officers in Sacramento.
1983: David Weiss Productions: San Diego, California. Still photographer & Channel Islands dive guide for producer David Weiss's documentary "Incidental Kill," filmed by Howard Hall, focusing on species that become incidental kill in the use of driftnets, such as pinnipeds and other pelagic marine animals.

PUBLICATION CREDITS:

Magazine Covers: 80 covers, including USA, European, South American, and Asian magazines. Numerous dive travel and natural history articles & photographs published in hundreds of magazines, natural history books, and calendars worldwide.
Exhibits: New England Aquarium, John Shed Aquarium, Monterey Bay Aquarium, the Santa Barbara Sea Center, and the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History.
Calendars: Daydream, World Wildlife Fund, Turtle Press, Landmark, Western Lithographics-Tri monthly calendar, The Great Whales, The World of Sharks, and many others.
