High Definition Reel - Low Resolution

The demo reel is a compilation of footage shot in 10 different countries and shows the diversity of the stock footage library. Included on the reel are clips of some of the smallest, the largest, the most bizarre, and most endearing marine creatures that live in the world's aquatic environments. Locations include South Africa, the Red Sea, the Bahamas and Florida, Costa Rica, Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Truk Lagoon, and Mexico.

The reel was put together with a concept of appealing to both producers, who might have little time to see the full reel, and others who wanted a more in-depth view, in mind. Thus, the first minute of the reel is a fast-action sequence of one-second clips to grab attention. Longer, four-second cuts follow that opener, allowing a tantalizing glimpse at the breadth of the library:

White sharks in South Africa are curious. They come in close to check out Tom as he films them. Caribbean reef sharks swirl around a ball of bait, ignoring Tom filming on their periphery. In shallow waters, bull sharks circle Tom and Dennis while Silky sharks cruise past the camera in the Red Sea.

Gentle giant manta rays glide in lyrical motion for Tom’s camera, the ballet of these intelligent and very endangered creatures captured in all their magnificence. Dolphins leap exuberantly from the waves and endearing manatees move in close to observe Tom, every detail down to the hairs on their face tack sharp in HD. Right whales, including a rare pale one, ride South African waves in an aerial view as Tom shoots from a helicopter.

The colorful "Nemo" spine-cheeked anemonefish guards its eggs. Tom films a wide, medium, and close-up sequence whenever possible, shots that add greater value to the library. A flamboyant cuttlefish, recently discovered to be toxic, turns color and an octopus buries itself in the sand revealing interesting behaviors of unusual creatures. Many venomous creatures are featured in the library, such as a variety of lionfish, with their toxic spines and the weird demon stinger fish. The tiny pygmy seahorse, strange-looking frogfish, colorful nudibranchs, and beautiful underwater scenery are just a few of the other things shown on the reel.

One of Tom’s favorite places to dive is Truk Lagoon, where the Japanese fleet sank during the massive bombing raid of Operation Hailstone in 1944. Many ships, still with tanks, trucks, and other cargo now lie at the bottom of the area. Tom takes us down more than 200 feet for a glimpse of the silent tombs. More than a half-century of living growth covers the ghostly fleet, life flourishing in the aftermath of so much destruction.
